Born in Chicago, IL and raised in South Bend, Ind., Jeb graduated with a BA in English from IU Bloomington in 1996 and settled a couple years later in Indianapolis. Jeb co-founded an early eBay consignment company, Stuffe, with his college friend Jason Yoder in 1999. He later co-founded the first Indiana based eBay Live auction house, Antique Helper, in 2001 with Dan Ripley. He also founded music archive site Musicalfamilytree.com in early 2004. Jeb left Antique Helper to start Small Box Consulting in January of 2006 with partner Joe Downey, who was also working at Antique Helper. Jeb is the "idea guy" for the business and infuses his forward-thinking vision into every project. Jeb and his wife Jenny have three beautiful daughters; Ramona, Georgia, and Sylvia. His interests include family, friends, music-playing and recording, gardening, the web, travel, biking, cooking and late night walks.
As CEO, Jeb has a hand in almost every aspect of Small Box - from managing web design and development to consulting on new media, Internet marketing or search engine optimization (SEO) initiatives.
Jeb's Top 5 Strengths in StrengthsFinder 2.0
- Strategic :: Jeb's Strategic strength enables him to sort through the clutter and find the best route. This strength allows him to see patterns where others simply see complexity. Mindful of these patterns, Jeb plays out alternative scenarios. This helps him see around the next corner and accurately evaluate the potential obstacles. Guided by where he sees each path leading, Jeb starts to make selections. He culls and make selections until he arrives at the chosen path—his strategy. Armed with his strategy, he strikes forward.
- Maximizer :: Excellence, not average, is Jeb's measure. Taking something from below average to slightly above average takes a great deal of effort , but transforming something strong into something superb takes just as much effort and is much more thrilling. Strengths, whether his own or someone else's, fascinate Jeb. Like a diver after pearls, he searches them out, watching for the telltale signs of a strength. And having found a strength, Jeb feels compelled to nurture it, refine it, and stretch it toward excellence. He polishes the pearl until it shines.
- Ideation :: Jeb is fascinated by ideas. He is delighted when he discovers beneath the complex surface an elegantly simple concept to explain why things are the way they are. Jeb's is the kind of mind that is always looking for connections, and he is intrigued when seemingly disparate phenomena can be linked by an obscure connection. He revels in taking the world we all know and turning it around so we can view it from a strange but strangely enlightening angle. For all these reasons Jeb derives a jolt of energy whenever a new idea occurs to him.
- Arranger :: Jeb is a conductor. When faced with a complex situation involving many factors, he enjoys managing all of the variables, aligning and realigning them until he is sure he has arranged them in the most productive configuration possible. From the mundane to the complex, he is always looking for the perfect configuration. Jeb is a shining example of effective flexibility and, of course, he is at his best in dynamic situations. He is not hesitant to jump into confusing situations, to devise new options, to hunt for new paths of least resistance, and to figure out new partnerships—because, after all, there might just be a better way.
- Relator :: Jeb's Relator strength pulls him toward people he already knows. He does not necessarily shy away from meeting new people, but he does derive a great deal of pleasure and strength from being around his close friends. He is comfortable with intimacy and, once the initial connection has been made, he deliberately encourages a deepening of the relationship. Jeb wants to understand other's feelings, goals, fears and dreams. This kind of closeness implies a certain amount of risk, but he is willing to accept that risk.
